The network of partners of the UNESCO Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve includes companies and associations in the region that are particularly environmentally conscious, sustainable and regional.

Recognition as a partner of the Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve takes place in a certification process that includes industry-specific quality criteria, taking into account the nationwide standards for partner networks of the Nationale Naturlandschaften e.V. (National Natural Landscapes Association). Certification is possible in eleven sectors. These include the following sectors in the transnational Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve:

  • Educational institutions,
  • Services,
  • Fishing,
  • Gastronomy,
  • Trade,
  • Craft,
  • Agriculture/direct marketing,
  • Food processing,
  • Tourism,
  • Overnight stays and
  • Certified nature and landscape guides.

In the individual federal states, an independent award council made up of various stakeholders from the region decides on recognition as a partner of the biosphere reserve. In subsequent years, regular recertification takes place after three years at the latest.

The "Partner of the Biosphere Reserve" award involves the signing of a contract and the presentation of a certificate and plaque to the partners, which clearly identifies them as ambassadors of the biosphere reserve and promotes the high quality of the products and services they offer.
