Overall concept for River Elbe

In 2017, two federal ministries and ten federal states adopted a joint concept for the first time, the overall Elbe concept, the aim of which is to harmonize transport use and water management requirements with the preservation of the valuable natural area along the Elbe.

In the implementation of the "overall concept for River Elbe" of the Federal Government and the federal states, the Elbe River Landscape Working Group represents the area of nature conservation across the federal states.

In the federal states, the individual biosphere reserve administrations work closely with the departments responsible for flood protection, in the coordination and implementation of many small measures in "day-to-day business" as well as in planning projects to implement the objectives of the National Flood Protection Program. Numerous hydraulic engineering projects are currently being implemented as part of the overall Elbe concept and the riverbed stabilization programme for the Elbe.
